Foo Fighters: Alive & Well

musical beginnings

The story begins when Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, formerly of Scream, is hired to do the work of battery in the then unknown grunge group Nirvana. By chance, Grohl's first album in such training, Nevermind, was a real success in the "mainstream" through which the band he clinched the top spot on the charts worldwide. This situation led to media star Kurt Cobain, leader of the group, depression and drug abuse, which would end with his death in April 1994. During the time that he was a member of Nirvana, Dave wrote several songs on their own, some of which did not seem entirely consistent with the sound of the band. Later, in 1997, went on to say "I awed the songs of Kurt Cobain, and I was intimidated. So I thought it best that I keep the songs for me. "With these songs, which did not show his teammates, he decided on his own record a demo under the pseudonym Late!, Naming the album as Pocketwatch. The edition of this demo was done in just one hundred cassettes Grohl distributed only among his friends and without any intention of editing it commercially.

Alive & Well

In 2000, the band publicly acknowledged their support for Alive & Well, 6 an American organization that believes the human immunodeficiency virus is the cause of AIDS, as well as questioning the validity of the checks for the virus and deny the use drugs to slow the causes of the disease. Bassist Nate Mendel was the one who recommended the book by the founder of the company, Christine Maggiore, the remaining band members.
That same year, Mendel organized a concert to benefit the organization, 6 and collaborations promoted by the company documentary called The Other Side of AIDS (the other face of AIDS)

first album

Foo Fighters (1995-1997) After the death of Kurt Cobain and the consequent disappearance of Nirvana, Grohl decided to pursue his musical career. He returned to the studio to record self-other few songs, this time under the name Foo Fighters. He recorded all the instruments on all songs, except for a guitar accompaniment courtesy of his friend Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs guitarist). In 2009, Dave Grohl told VH1 Storytellers in the name of "Foo Fighters" was intended to make it in the minds of people, something sexy, like "Led Zeppelin" but that would not have put "Foo Fighters "the band if I had known that would be as successful.
