After the huge success the band toured for several months appearing across the United States and some cities in Europe, being especially remarkable success achieved in England). After almost two years of extensive touring in 1997 began recording their second album, The Colour And The Shape, which contains hits like Monkey Wrench, My Hero, Everlong Hey Johnny Park. For recording the album, William Goldsmith (drums) was required only on Doll and Up in Arms, which led to his leaving the group after several discussions. Other sources cite clashes between the producer Gil Norton and Goldsmith which resulted in removal of the latter, leaving Grohl to record this position the rest of the songs. Critics proclaimed him as one of the best rock albums of the 90's.
